Open position: Gallery Engineer

Location: Milan

The sought-after resource, to be included in the Expert Tunnel Working Group reporting to the “Tunnel Manager” under the Guidelines for Risk Classification and Management, Safety Assessment and Monitoring of Existing Tunnels (referred to in the Ministerial Decree 247 of August 1, 2022), after an initial shadowing period, will be responsible for coordinating, for the tunnels assigned to him/her, the activities according to which the Tunnel Guidelines are articulated.

Main responsibilities:

  • Curate, for each tunnel, the program of activities, control and monitoring and the scheduling of in-depth investigations and monitoring if deemed necessary;
  • Coordinate the preparation of monitoring plans and interventions that may be necessary, taking into account the outcomes of safety assessments;
  • Take care of the coordination between the inspection phase and the expert judgment to which any specialists for specific tunnels may contribute;
  • Prepare the program of inspection activities for inclusion in the supplementary document of the Maintenance Plan;
  • Coordinate the implementation of the program of inspections, surveys and measurements as provided for in the Supplementary Document of the Maintenance Plan;
  • Provide the operator with the necessary elements for the annual report on the condition of the tunnels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering (preferably Master’s degree in Civil Engineering majoring in Geotechnics)
  • Three-year experience in tunnel design
  • Experience in inspection or otherwise applying recent tunnel assessment activities according to the MIMS 2020 Manual
  • In-depth knowledge on the use of Excel and related programming tools
  • Excellent Knowledge of Office package, MS Project, Power Point and Business Intelligence software
  • Knowledge of structural calculation software
  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written English
  • Ability to process, draft and read graphic and technical papers
  • Aptitude for teamwork and problem solving
  • Willingness to travel throughout the country

  • Enrollment in the Register of Engineers or willingness to enroll
  • Registration with the Ministry of the Interior’s lists of fire safety experts
  • Project manager certification
  • Design in the structural field
  • Infrastructure management and maintenance
